COMMUNITY PARTNERS PROJECT

Picture
During the school year, interactive lessons, in depth explorations, and immersive experiences challenge students to enrich the skills needed to thrive in a dynamic future. A vital part of our curriculum includes giving students the chance to work next to members of the Fishers community.

The community partners project is the last major endeavor of the fall semester. Using their newly-learned Design Thinking skills, groups of students take on challenges issued by a local entities. They'll walk through the entire Design Thinking process and propose innovative solutions to the problems presented by the time the semester rounds out in December. Challenges can be any size or shape--the more diverse the better!

We're always recruiting partners! If your organization is interested, please contact Steve Guenin (smguenin@hse.k12.in.us) or Kelsey Habig (khabig@hse.k12.in.us).

Past partnerships and challenges:

Fishers Public Relations - Develop ThisisFishers.com, a lifestyle-blog dedicated to the stories of Fishers residents and businesses.
Fishers Police Dept. - Use student perspective in safe school planning and establish student-led projects to improve school safety.
Senator Jim Merritt’s Office - Put together a prevention program for student peers focused on both prescription and illicit opioids.
Fishers Zoning & Planning - Propose a plan for 75 acres of undeveloped land that highlights the need for creating a sense of place, commercial nodes, smart and diverse housing designs, connectivity and open space.
Fishers Fire Dept. - What one time event or multi-level approach can connect the Fishers Fire Department with the older students (middle and high school) for prevention and safety  information?
Goldfish Swim School - In what ways can we make high schoolers and college students aware of our job opportunities?
Citizens State Bank - How can high schoolers establish and maintain a budget to start their road to financial freedom?
School of Rock - With a budget of $2000/month, what’s the most effective way to reach potential clients ages 12-18?
The New Creative - Tracking billable time and doing the actual billing itself tend to be big obstacles for me in my business. How can I streamline and standardize those processes?
Fall Creek Township Trustees - How can we increase awareness for our food pantry to potential food and financial donors, families in need, and community partners?
Escapes on the Run - There are two primary areas for expansion: market demographics and technology.
Clear Object - Design a way that managers of a restaurant can use metrics from social media to determine when to begin cooking food in order to minimize waste.
Fishers YMCA - We would welcome innovative solutions to our problem of recruiting and retaining high quality part time staff in Aquatics (swim instructors, life guards) and Play & Learn (child care workers) departments.
City Councilman Todd Zimmerman - What are ways to get residents connected with day-to-day local government? How can an elected official do a better job of communicating with constituents?
Fishers Parks & Rec. - Fishers continues to receive accolades for green initiatives, but we don’t currently have a recycling program for our parks. Implement one recognizing that such an initiative goes beyond simply setting up recycling bins.
HSE Schools Foundation - Public education is not often seen as a philanthropic cause like Riley Hospital, the Humane Society, etc.. How can students mobilize to give back to local schools? How can they inspire the community to follow their lead?
Nickel Plate Arts - We’re taking on more responsibilities in Fishers next year, but we can’t afford to add more staff. What’s the best way to spread the word about volunteer opportunities and to keep volunteers engaged between events?
